Which classes are “done”?

Which classes are “done”?   The talk of the beta town lately is the recent announcement that 3.0, and with it the WotLK talents and abilities, will be going Live in a timeframe of weeks.   “The coming weeks” does not suggest a lengthy period of time.   I haven’t been in beta as long as most (only a couple of weeks) but I will tell you right now that WotLK is not ready for release.   There’s still time to implement and test content. With 3.0 does not come Northrend, nor does it come Northrend’s dungeons and raids, nor does it come with Northrend’s battleground or World PvP. What does come with 3.0 are class talents and abilities.   Those aren’t ready either.   A number of classes have received almost no review throughout the entire beta process. Shaman and Rogues come to mind as classes that both have not had any serious class changes throughout the beta and have still-NYI talents that nobody’s even been able to

Is 70-80 intended for solo play only?

Is 70-80 intended for solo play only? Blizzard, grouping for levels is even harder than it was before.   Every class and every dps spec is able to grind consistently with zero downtime now. There is no reason to group, as experience is cut in (at least) half while killing speed more or less remains the same. Even if you put together an AoE class and a healer, Northrend simply doesn’t have the mob density to support massive AoE pulls (the only thing that *might* justify grouping).   People on the beta server refuse to group for any quest, especially with the new exp curve put into place. Why group with a class that won’t increase your grinding speed enough to counteract the huge exp penalty?   This is a larger problem for healers and tanks. Although they generally do more dps than they did at the start of BC, the exp curve ends up putting several hours onto each of their levels.   Here are some of the reasons I see for grouping being even less desirable than in

Special thanks to Wheaty for crashing WoW

Special thanks to Wheaty for crashing WoW   Do you really think that they don’t understand the severity of it? I mean, come on, large scale city raiding is prohibited because it crashes servers. Do you really think even for a second that (1) they don’t understand that a huge number of things in one small area crashes the server and that (2) this ’sploit can spawn said huge numbers of ghouls?   You do not need to nuke the server to “help to see just how broken this is” or to “see how high a priority bug this really is.” It’s obvious that doing this will crash the server, duh. You know this, I know this, they know this. We really don’t need to crash to tell them this.   It’s perfectly clear what this can and cannot do, and it really does not need a demonstration.   We know that spawning a million objects in one area crashes servers. They, the devs, know this too. You do not need to help them put two and two together.

Around Azeroth: The spaces in-between

Around Azeroth: The spaces in-between The 3.0.2 madness continues! The EU realms were patched yesterday, and soon after the realms came up, Belacqua of Stormrage-EU took a trip to Undercity with two aims in mind: take a look at the new Sylvanas and do the daily battleground. The first objective went off without a hitch, but when her battleground popped while standing in Tirisfal Glades, she began falling through the world. She died, released, and found herself in this strange, gloomy, terrainless gray land. The only things marking it as Tirisfal were the flags hovering above the ground. Has the final judgement come? Did Belacqua die and end up in limbo? (I doubt it — I think we all know where the blood elves are going.) Do you have any unusual World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We’d love to see it on Around Azeroth! Around Azeroth: The morning after

Around Azeroth: The morning after Oh, Elune, what happened last night? My arm feels all fuzzy. Fuzzy and warm and soft. And moving! Aagh, I’m full of squirrels! And they’ve nested! My trainer told me that the Autumnal Acorn Ale was a bad idea, but I didn’t listen, did I … and now they’ve moved right in with me. Well, they haven’t noticed that I’m up yet. Maybe I can gnaw off my branch and escape before they wake up and want breakfast. It’s a small price to pay for my freedom. (Thanks to Pinkberry, who left this in a comment on the original Ale post!) Do you have any unusual World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We’d love to see it on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing  with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next! Locked Character [Warning!]

Locked Character [Warning!] Hi you Alpha guys,   I was thinking about this a few hours back and there might be an issue here.   Blizzard gave us more character copies.   Our Locked character isnt “listed” in the character list.   If you transfer more characters over and fill those slots……. What happens to your locked character? What happens if they unlock those characters and you dont have slots to support those now?   Be very careful.

Holy and Protection buffs incoming for Paladins

Holy and Protection buffs incoming for Paladins   Ghostcrawler just recently posted some good news for both Protection and Holy Paladins. Some of them are simply a matter of convenience, but all of the changes posted were nice little buffs. First, Righteous Defense now has an 8 second cooldown. It’s 15 seconds on live realms, and was 10 seconds previously in the beta. I’m very, very glad this change was made, though it’s an example of the ’slippery slope’ of homogenizing classes/tanks. Paladins were the only class with a ranged taunt, but now all of the tanks have one. Righteous Defense still taunts multiple mobs, but all of the other tanks had/have AOE taunts as well. Righteous Defense mostly lost what made it beautiful compared to the other taunts, so it really needed this buff to not look terrible. I’m glad they did it. Next up are some Holy changes. Infusion of Light now affects Flash of Light in addition to Holy Light. I think this is a

Insider Trader: A young crafter’s guide to the Darkmoon Faire

Insider Trader: A young crafter’s guide to the Darkmoon Faire   Insider Trader is your inside line on making, selling, buying and using player-made products. The Darkmoon Faire is in full swing, and in between checking on the live breaking news being posted from our folks at BlizzCon, leveling craftsmen are being given an opportunity to make some gold. The Faire has much to offer the citizens of Azeroth, from fancy foods and frog pets to tickets that can be handed in for nifty prizes. It is this ticket system that offers you the opportunity to make some money. You see, tickets are awarded in exchange for certain items. Many of these items are crafted, while others are looted, such as [Vibrant Plume]. Because players hand these items in to the Faire both for reputation and for tickets, they are highly marketable a few days before the Faire begins, as well as the first few days after it arrives. The items do not include Outland craftables, so this income opportunity is

Additional Character Copies

It has been awhile now since additional character copies to beta were made available. Considering the need to have materials available to test all professions, specifically Inscription, can we please get another round of character copies? Since the changes that required more herbs to level Inscription I am no longer confident in the results I saw when I initially transferred and tested the profession. Opening additional copies would allow me to transfer over my herb mule again and re-level the profession without beta herbing (which I just can’t force myself to do). Thanks.
