Blizzard EU has released a long and detailed statement concerning the recent waves of extended maintenance and how it’s connected to the problems associated with launching instances. For several months players have been plagued with the message “Additional instances cannot be launched.” The message was being caused by overloaded instance servers, and for a long time there was seemingly nothing Blizzard could do about it.
Blizzard’s statement today clearly informs us that all the extended maintenance we’ve been seeing is directly due Blizzard implementing fixes for the problems server-side. While the statement comes from an EU source, once can assume rather easily that it applies to the US as well.
While no timeframe is given as to exactly when this will be done for all realms, it is very good to know that stuff is getting done behind the scenes. And this look at exactly what Blizzard is doing to their servers represents a rare glimpse into their inner

The Mighty Battle continues! Today we’ll took at another pair of mail and leather sets, this time for the Rogue and Shaman Tier 9 sets from the Crusader’s Coliseum. For the past three days, we’ve pitted suits of armor against each other in an all-out brawl determined by the armor design’s faithfulness to its class, representation of its faction, and overall badassery. It’s the first time we’re seeing faction-based PvE Tier armor in the World of Warcraft, so we’ll see who comes out on top.
While I’ve outlined my criteria for judging the armor sets, we’ve spiced things up with a reader poll to see which armor you guys like and from the results thus far it looks like the Horde have gained a good edge in the voting. Is it a result of faction-bias? Are the armor sets really that much better for the Horde? Hit the jump to find out!

Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com’s daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky will be your host today.
A simple question instead of an introduction.
Are you a god?
Yes

Go get her, Ray!
Some music too which you can listen to while reading today’s Queue. And some more. Don’t watch the videos, they’re dumb. But the music is great.
Angus asked…
“Why is there a defense channel for every zone? Specifically, why would anyone be attacking the Twisting Nether? I found this to be my most amusing channel. The raid or instance ones are funny, but this one always cracks me up.”
My guess is that the game is automatically programmed to join a local defense channel for every zone, regardless of the zone name or content. That’s pretty easy to program, and would keep things lightweight versus an array of zones based on faction which get defense channels.

Warning: This guy is probably not someone you’d want as an officer. Nor is this video safe for work, small children, or anyone who is sensitive about cursing or animated depictions of sexual acts. But with that said, everyone and their grandmother has seen it, so enjoy.
Adding officers to your guild can help ease burdens on the Guild Master, and up efficiency within the guild. But poorly chosen or corrupt officers can do more harm than good within. Even before you select a cadre of officers, you should have an idea of what you’d like them to do for you. Let’s take a look at the different types of officers you should consider having in your guild, and how they all interact with each other and your fellow guildies.
Class leaders are the first to come to mind. This type of authority should have a keen knowledge of the common specs and rotations for their class. They should be familiar with itemization for their charges and advocate for them in loot decisions.

The Colosseum takes us inside the world of the Gladiator (Brutal, Vengeful, Merciless, Furious, and otherwise), to interview some of the top Arena fighters in the battlegroups. Our goal is to bring a better understanding of the strategy, makeup, and work that goes into dueling it out for fame, fortune, and Netherdrakes. We’re especially focused on the people who play these games, to further shed light on the world of the PvP player.
Comotu is the Paladin in the 5v5 team “ROFL My Copter,” the 3v3 team “RMP,” and the 2v2 team “COMOFOLD.” While developing his skills since Season 2, Comotu has had the opportunity to work with several players. Even more importantly, he’s preparing himself and his team to excel in future seasons.
Comotu spent some time with The Colosseum, talking about how he came about playing a Paladin, how his teams got together, and what kind of dynamics he experiences in current matches. Check out what he had to say

Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com’s daily Q&A column where the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.
Today I am pleased to announce something even bigger than a new WoW expansion. In fact, it has nothing to do with WoW at all, but it’s still something every single person reading this blog will want to know about. It’s something that will bring excitement to all of our lives. Our inner children will burst forth in joy at this announcement. This is something that’s 17 years in the making, folks. That’s probably longer than some of you have been alive.
Yes, that’s right. Don’t Copy That Floppy is getting a sequel.
Naix asked…
“Will we ever see each faction get their own special class again like the Paladin and Shaman?”
Probably not. The reason they ended up giving the Horde Paladins and the Alliance Shaman is that it was balance hell to have them

Getting started can be the most difficult step for WoW newbies and WoW “WarCrafters” alike. Showing your artwork to other people – or even having the gumption to create any in the first place – can be intimidating stuff. Discovering someone who’s willing to show you how it’s done or even share his creative process represents a major inspirational coup. Swedish WoW player Jonas at wowatar.com is one of those creative wellsprings. He’s created a small drawing site filled with WoW-related nuggets that inspire, instruct and delight.
“I’m a struggling artist and illustrator and a dedicated World of Warcraft player,” he writes to World of WarCrafts. “I’ve tried

I want an Orc. More specifically, I want my Blood Elf Death Knight to become an Orc. I know, I should’ve chosen the right race to begin with, but he’s now Level 80 and it’s too late. I don’t want a pretty boy Death Knight, which was obviously a bad idea to begin with considering they infest Dalaran and the rest of Azeroth like metrosexual cockroaches, but I made a mistake and I regret it. I seriously want to change my character’s race. I’d consider rerolling, but it’s a Death Knight.
Paid character customization is nice and all, but it won’t let me change my race. At first I was fine with it because I thought it would create all sorts of problems from quests to factions to racial mounts… but then Blizzard drops a bombshell of an announcement: faction changes are coming to Azeroth! Implicitly, this meant being able to change races, too. Nethaera squashes that idea with a resounding ‘No’. Players could only change to
